As the winter months approach, bugs tend to find their way inside to the warm and snow-free comfort of your home or business space. These unwelcomed guests tend to do more bad than good, so we aim to keep them out of our living and work areas. Pests not only make people uncomfortable; they also can lead to health issues and unpleasant smells. Here are a few ways you can be proactive in preventing pest problems in the winter:
1. Check for cracks or gaps in your space
Smaller insects and rodents can fit through gaps or cracks in doors or windows giving them access into your living area or business. By sealing these entry points, unwanted guests will have no choice but to turn around and walk the other way!
2. Dispose of your leaf piles
Leaf piles are great fun for kids, but bugs and rodents love to hide in there, too. Letting the leaf pile sit for many days is a great way to attract bugs, which you do not want near your house or business. As soon as you’re able, dispose of your leaves and keep your property free from those pets.
3. Tightly seal and secure food sources
When the temperatures get lower, the natural food supplies outdoor for pests deplete. They come looking indoors for any sort of food source, so it’s important not to leave containers open such as bags of chips or dog food. Remember to clean up the messy meals and food particles kids may have dropped. Also, pick up the leftover dog bones on the floor!
4. Clean up sitting water
Last but certainly not least, pests and rodents need water to survive during the cold months. Sitting water from the last storm, melting snow, or even leaking pipes in your home are perfect excuses for bugs and mice to gravitate toward your space. Have a professional come out to inspect your space if you’re having issues, or for preventative measures!
These tips are here to help you prevent any future bug or rodent infestations in your business or home, but they are not always foolproof. If these pests continue to invade your space, don’t be afraid to reach out to Ramer Pest Control for a free estimate or email us today at [email protected].
